Designing a Warm and Inviting Garage Entryway for the Queensborough Project

The Queensborough Project is in the exciting design phase, and today I’m sharing the vision behind a small but impactful space: the entryway hallway off the garage. This transitional area, often overlooked, is the perfect opportunity to add a sense of warmth and character. My goal is to create a functional yet cozy space that sets the tone for the rest of the home.

Mood Board: A Glimpse Into the Design

The first step in this process was curating a mood board (see attached). The design features earthy tones, vintage-inspired accents, and timeless textures that evoke a collected, lived-in feel. From the aged brass finishes to the richly textured rug, every element has been thoughtfully selected to create harmony and charm.

The Power of Color Drenching

To elevate this compact space, I’m employing the technique of color drenching—painting the walls, trim, and ceiling in the same rich, earthy tone. This cohesive approach transforms a simple hallway into a dramatic yet inviting space, almost like a warm hug when you walk through the door. It’s an easy way to make a small area feel purposeful and sophisticated.

A Blend of Style and Functionality

Since this entryway also includes a small closet and pantry, functionality is key. I’ll incorporate smart storage solutions without sacrificing style:

  • Closet: Outfitted with baskets, hooks, and sturdy shelving for quick and easy organization.

  • Pantry: Designed with seamless storage to keep essentials tidy and accessible.

  • Decorative Touches: The addition of an antique-inspired mirror, a woven basket, and a moody landscape art piece creates depth and visual interest.

Why Small Spaces Deserve Drama

Even though this hallway is small, it deserves just as much thought as any other area in the home. By layering textures, incorporating bold color, and adding meaningful details, it becomes a space that feels intentional rather than just a pass-through.

Stay tuned for more updates as this space transitions from mood board to reality. I can’t wait to bring this cozy vision to life for the Queensborough Project!
